Cohasset Day 2008
Cohasset Day

The First Annual Cohasset Day took place on a glorious September afternoon.  From 12 – 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, over 2000 people turned out for this day of activity and celebration.  The Cohasset Economic Development Committee in partnership with the Cohasset Chamber of Commerce orchestrated this event after months of painstaking planning and coordination.  The intent of the day was to celebrate what is unique about Cohasset and to market our town as a destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment.

The day kicked off with a carillon concert by Mary Kennedy, followed by a bike parade with some our youngest residents decked out in imaginative costumes.  Jim Armstrong supervised an afternoon of entertainment on center stage that featured act after act of delightful music.  Lisa Lynch of Ports emceed a terrific fashion show with models of all ages wearing her stylish collections. The South Shore Art Center, as well as the two musems, welcomed guests.  On the common were games for kids, a dunk tank and a mini-triathalon, as well as our own Farmer’s Market.   Various non-profit groups joined the day meeting and greeting visitors. The First Annual Cohasset Car Concours rolled down South Main Street for judging at 2:00 and parked in Hajj Auto Care for public viewing.

At 4:00 p.m, 18 restaurants and local food purveyors rolled out “A Taste of Cohasset.”’   Each vendor decorated their table and served the public a taste of their creation.

The day ended with a concert by The Screamin Leamans and dancing in the street.  It truly was a magnificent day of celebration!

  Some comments about the event:

Alain Pinel of the Cohasset EDC summarized the success of the day as follows, “What a day it has been! It was great. The whole town showed up it seems like: parents, kids, grandparents, dogs… All having fun, all celebrating their town and themselves. Beautiful scene. Shops and eateries were busy all day. . We have time to think about all that. Now, we just have to be happy that the Town was glorious on Cohasset Day. The sun has never felt so good.  Cohasset Day 2009, here we come.”

Pete Brown of the Cohasset EDC followed Alain’s sentiment by saying “Part of the beauty of the day was that it was not so commercialized ......just good  'ol fashion fun and games and music and old cars and delicious food by our restaurants with people young and old enjoying it all  ....except of course for our stores benefiting from the extraordinary traffic....clearly one of the EDC's  and Chamber's  intents for  the day....”

Karen Kirkendall of the Cohasset Chamber penned this sentiment, "Wow!  What a fabulous day we had for our first annual Cohasset Day.  I hope everyone was here to enjoy the events and the great food.  A special thanks to the following volunteers who sold tickets and T-shirts and passed along some good will for our Chamber:  Candy Ford, Faith Harris, Janice Crowley, Melissa Browne, Pam Pendergast, Jen Silvia, Brad Goodwin, Ron Goodwin, Pat Sunnerberg, Chris D'Allesandro, Claudia Oliver, George Marlette, Pat Ranney, Matthew Cunningham, Phillip Faulkner, Jackie Fitts, Rob Gray, Sean Cunning, Christine Cunning, Carole and Earle Bestick and Tanna Kasperowicz.  A special thanks to Darilynn Evans, our Chamber liason to the Cohasset Day Committee, and to Lisa Hewitt and her spouse, Mike Dick, who worked all day doing set-up, take-down, and being responsible for the money handling.  Thank you, everyone.  Hooray!"

Mary Kennedy wrote, “ judging by the smiles on faces yesterday the event was a smashing success.  Good food, fun activities, glorious sun and music music music! “

Judy McColgan of Windsor Tea Shop participated in the tasting, and offered her congratulations and insight, “ I would say the event was a success. Such fun.... How nice it was with all those people. I was so glad that I participated. I got a lot of good comments on my baked goods. People came back for seconds and thirds. I can't wait for next year...Thank you again for a smashing job. For a first it was well organized.”
